An interesting screenshot is doing the rounds from this year’s Eurogamer Expo, which showcases the Xbox One’s DVR function. This allows you to capture clips from video games and upload them online.

However, the screen above shows that you can either choose between recording the final five minutes or record manually. For his part, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President Phil Harrison stated that “you can record as much or as little as you want.”

There are many questions that arise from this: For example, the default function is to record the last five minutes from your gameplay. Does this mean that when you record manually, that you’ll be starting from any point and be able to record a maximum of five minutes of gameplay? Or will you really be able to record as much footage as you want with manual recording?

Stay tuned for more information on the same, as the Xbox One prepares to launch on November 22nd.

Sounds to me like the 5 minute thing is in the event that something truly random happens while you play. If I understand this correctly, I can pull off something crazy in DR3 and, if nothing up to that point had been all that interesting, play another 4 or so minutes (if something else happens) resulting in a clip that shows the crazy accident/event/whatever plus a little lead-in and some lead-out for video editing and uploading purposes.
Also, based on the Phil Harrison quote, sounds like you can just let it run and record an entire playthrough of a mission/fight/track and then end it whenever you want. I imagine this will be a good use of an external drive if it can be set up to put all DVR footage there.

The real interesting question is whether the DVR functionlity will eventually bleed over into the live tv passthrough…

My question is whether you could possibly change the setting for a default 10, 15 to up to 30 seconds as an alternative to manual. If they manage to update this, it would be a huge deal to me… =p
