I&#039;ll admit I haven&#039;t played Link&#039;s Awakening, but from what I&#039;ve heard the story goes that a terrible creature infected the dream of the Wind Fish, and the only way to save WF and destroy the creature is to end the dream and wake WF up.  During the final fight with the creature it makes a last ditch effort to save itself by trying to convince Link that the dream world is real and that ending the dream would kill all the inhabitants.  Which is complete BS, but it&#039;s pretty regular as far as last ditch efforts by movie and video game villains.  So the world wasn&#039;t destroyed, the dream was just ended and Link was returned to the real world.]]></description>
