While rumours have been going around about 2K Sports potentially reviving its College Hoops 2K series of college basketball games, the company has now outright confirmed that it is working on a new college basketball experience. In a social media post, the company confirmed that this experience will feature more than a hundred programs from across the US, and that this experience is planned for release in 2027, with some surprises planned for early 2026 as well.
“Yes, it’s true,” wrote the company in a social media post. “We’re working on a college basketball experience that will feature more than 100 programs from across the country, from powerhouses to Cinderella stories. Competition fuels quality at all levels, which is why our approach with college basketball ensures our partner schools, college athletes and our players all benefit.”
“More good news – you won’t have to wait long to start seeing your favorite colleges show up in game. We’ve got big plans for 2027 and beyond, and even a few surprises coming in early 2026.”
2K’s announcement falls in line with previous reports that indicated that the company was in contact with a host of universities, including Michigan St., Houston and UCLA about a potential College Hoops 2K revival. The report at the time also indicated that 2K might start out by testing the waters with content related to college basketball in its mainline NBA 2K games.
At the time, the report noted that the company was more likely to work on a standalone college basketball game if there was enough interest in the sport through additions and DLC released for NBA 2K games featuring some of the college athletes. “2K would assess the viability of a standalone college basketball game that would be contingent on some measurable milestones for 2K28,” noted sports reporter Matt Brown at the time.
While 2K works on a college basketball-related content for the future, the company is also gearing up to release its mainline basketball game – NBA 2K26 – which is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2 later today.
Leading up to this release, the company has revealed new details about a host of features coming to the game, with the most recent Courtside Report focusing on The City. Among the improvements coming to the feature include smoother framerates and improved visual fidelity. Along with this, The City will also be home to a host of other features, including the return of the Park, which originally made its debut in NBA 2K14.
The Park will be the home of seasonal content when it comes to pick-up basketball games, with new Park environments coming to the game every six weeks. Along with new designs, players will also get to experience remastered versions of older iterations of the Park, including four returning ones from NBA 2K16’s MyPARK. Kicking things off, on release, the Park will be set in an urban area.
