Despite there being precursors of Survival Horror. Resident Evil is the franchise that coined the term and defined a genre for 20 years.

Honestly, the Resident Evil franchise are essentials (Classic Era) in gaming history.
And back to the comparison part, Resident Evil 1 and 4 are to video games as Dr. Dre’s The Chronic is to Hip Hop/Rap. Both of their impacts on their respective industries are enormous and are still felt to this day.
