A YouTuber by the name of VK’s Channel seems to have found an easy and permanent fix for Joy-Con drifting. The YouTuber demonstrates the fix using a single piece of cardboard. Check out the video below for more details on the matter.
According to the YouTuber, the root cause of the drift seems to be graphite pads within Joy-Cons not having enough pressure. These graphite pads are responsible for reading inputs from the sticks, and inadequate pressure on these pads seems to cause errors in readings, which, by extension, causes drift. YouTuber VK’s Channel fixes this by placing a single piece of cardboard inside the Joy-Con body, and that seems to resolve the issue permanently.
Joy-Con drift has been a long standing problem for Nintendo Switch owners, with a staggering number of cases leading to a class action lawsuit against Nintendo. The upcoming Nintendo Switch OLED features the same Joy-Cons, which presumably would exhibit similar problems as well. The fix seems to be working for many, and fans facing drift issues should try it out, since it is pretty easy to carry out.
