Activision Blizzard Initiates Layoffs

Activision will offer “comprehensive severance packages” to affected employees, however.

As was rumored, and after a rough week for them, Activision Blizzard has announced that it will be laying off personnel across all of its organization, which include Activision, Blizzard, and King (the makers of Candy Crush). Said layoffs could number in the hundreds, according to report from Kotaku.

According to an internal Blizzard memo obtained by Kotaku, one reason for these layoffs is that Activision finds itself overstaffed for the amount of games that it is releasing. To the organization’s credit, however, it sounds like it will at least be supporting the laid off personnel. According to the memo, people who are laid off will receive “a comprehensive severance package,” continuing health benefits, job placement assistance, career coaching, and profit-sharing bonuses for the previous year.

It’s surprisingly generous, though of course, it would have been best if they hadn’t been laid off to begin with. It’s terrible that these people have lost their jobs, and I sincerely hope that they will manage to land back on their feet as soon as they can.
