Activision Sees Lay Offs In Spite Of Successful Quarter

The failure of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare taking its toll.

Activision had a more successful than expected quarter, but it still laid off a number of employees across its workforce, Kotaku reports. The lay offs did not affect Blizzard and MLG, and were instead restricted solely to Activision studios, such as Beenox, and the makers of last year’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Infinity Ward, who laid off 20 people.

“Activision Publishing is realigning our resources to support our upcoming slate and adapt to the accelerating transition to digital, including opportunities for digital add-on content,” the publisher said in a statement released to Kotaku.

This is truly awful- and I really hope that the laid off people can get back on their feet again, and find themselves some proper employment some time soon. In our eagerness to pronounce final judgement on video games (such as what happened with Infinite Warfare), it is sometimes all too easy to forget that they are made by real people, who could be affected in very real ways by our hate.
