Come on….. stop being a pony. The problem is if you have a 1080p display. If your TV is 720p fine great, but if your screen is 1080p and your image is 720p you have 2 options stretch it or upscale it. Stretching an image brings down the quality upscaling is the process of saving the fidelity of the image by using mathematic algorithms and special filters and effects.

My point is that it still looks really good and can get extremely close too duplicating the native 1080p image. Especially since the games that we are comparing are last gen ports. They dont even have the assets to make to 1080 native worth while. The textures and models arent designed for it.
Sure…….. if you just have to have to the biggest number on the box the Ps4 versions push more pixels or frames but the difference is so small to any sane person it would be non factor.

You bring up a good point about the XDR vs DDR3, but the performance gap between XDR and DDR3 wasn’t as great as DDR3 and GDDR5. The issue of the PS3 having split memory and not unified memory rapidly became erased by 2008-2010. Some early multiplatform ports did suffer, but later ones generally maintained pace with the X360.

I don’t think any first party devs wasted time on the PS3 CPU. Many of them did great things that Microsoft wasn’t able to replicate (or if they did it took quite a while). The Uncharted Series, Killzone 2 and LittleBigPlanet all set hallmarks in this industry on their own. While the Cell was expensive and very hard to code for I think it helped Sony to retain better programming talent.

There is no way third party developers have maintained parity with the X360 and PS3 by not using the SPEs. Certainly 3rd party devs don’t make the most of the SPEs on the cell, but I doubt all of those games are running on the GP core alone. GTA V is most definitely digging into the Cell, there would be no way for them to achieve that much more graphical fidelity over GTA IV without getting more out of the processor. I think the reason PS3 games started to look so much better was because developers started actually using the SPEs.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong and cite a source that showcases developers didn’t use the SPEs and ran everything off of the Cell’s General Processing core (which was the case early on).
