Ancestors: The Human Kind Odyssey Said To Be Largely Non-Violent

We admit, we're intrigued.

One of the guys who is credited with making Assassin’s Creed the long running series it has been is bringing a brand new game, that will apparently be quite different in one key feature. Patrice Desilets has revealed that Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey won’t have a ton of violent action. Instead the game will be more about survival in ways that don’t include having to take down an enemy.

We knew that the game was going to be an open world survival title, thanks to the official announcement. Now the man who is credited as being the creator of Assassin’s Creed sat down and talked with Game Informer about his new game and let a whole lot of details slip. During the game, players will take on a story that skips through some of the most important parts of human history including domestication of animals, the invention of tools, discovering penicillin and putting a man on the moon.

Desilets revealed that all of this stuff will be handled in as bloodless a way as possible. “Our ancestors back then weren’t that violent,” he said. “They weren’t fighting each other. Cooperation and compassion are really part of the reason why we survived…There’s no evidence of war before the invention of agriculture on this planet.”

He added that when there is some kind of violence it will be used in a different kind of way. When a fire breaks out, the family will have to flee from it, then in another scene, they will have to use it in order to solve a puzzle. Still, they won’t be using it to take on their enemies. Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is slated for PC for now but could be hitting consoles later on.
