Animal Crossing: New Horizons Current Sales Already Match Original Lifetime Forecast

Being a massive hit would be an understatement.

Over the years, the Animal Crossing series has slowly been creeping up to become one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. It’s had entries that already rivaled other flagship series sales and was only growing with releases like New Leaf on the 3DS. But New Horizons is a different beast altogether. Released on Nintendo’s hottest system since the Wii, coupled with a pandemic that has left many indoors with little to do, has made New Horizons massive seller. But it’s even bigger than you think, as the game has, in just over a month, sold what it was expected in its entire lifetime.

In the most recent Nintendo Annual Financial Briefing Q&A, the company revealed that the current sales have already matched their initial forecast they had for the titles entire lifetime. So, just to break that down, the Switch is “barely” in the middle of its life cycle, meaning that we probably have roughly three years give or take of support for the system. That would mean that in less than two months, New Horizons has sold what Nintendo was probably expecting it to sell in roughly three years on the prime market. That’s a lot of turnips. Thanks a lot to Robert Sephazon for transcribing and translation.
