Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold 13.41 Million Units Worldwide, Pokemon Sword and Shield at 17.37 Million

New Horizons has already become the highest-selling game in the series.

Nintendo has released updates sales figures for both hardware and software during its recent quarterly financial briefing. On the hardware front, the Switch’s lifetime sales now stand at 55.77 million units, but there’s plenty to be impressed by on the software front as well.

The biggest news story here is Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which, to no one’s surprise, is selling like peanuts. By the end of the fiscal year (March 31, 2020), the game had sold 11.77 million units worldwide, while if you look at its sales beyond that for its first 6 weeks on the market – which would be until the end of April – those figures are even more impressive, standing at 13.41 million units worldwide. In doing so, it has already become the highest-selling game in the series, surpassing the lifetime sales of New Leaf.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Sword and Shield’s lifetime sales stand at an impressive 17.37 million units as of March 31. It’s the fourth highest selling game in the series, and looks to be on track to at least hit second place. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has sold 24.77 million units, and is now the second highest selling game in the series, overtaking Mario Kart DS. Notably, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Party have also hit the 10 million mark.

In total, Nintendo confirms that the Switch had 27 games that sold over a million units across FY 2020- 18 of these were Nintendo-published games, and the remaining 9 were third party titles.
