Animal Crossing: New Horizons Has Sold Over 22.4 Million Units

Animal Crossing's sales are showing no signs of slowing down.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has far and away been one of the most rapturously successful games of this year, whether because of the fact that it’s a game so many have latched on to during the pandemic, or because it’s just that damn good- or perhaps a combination of both. During their recent quarterly financial meeting, Nintendo provided updated sales figures on the life sim title, and its numbers are unsurprisingly impressive.

As of June 30, 2020Animal Crossing: Hew Horizons has sold 22.4 million units worldwide. At last count – which was the end of April, 6 weeks after the game’s launch – it had sold 13.41 million units worldwide, which means it managed to sell roughly 9 million units in the following two months. It’s also worth noting that these figures only account for sales up until June 30, which means that by now, it’s very likely standing at a much higher figure.

Nintendo also cites Animal Crossing: New Horizons as a huge reason for many people having picked up the Switch, saying that people who played the console for the first time because of the game continued to increase throughout the fiscal quarter, and that of all new Switch consoles used for the first time during this period, over half of them were used to play Animal Crossing on their first day.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is available now on Nintendo Switch. You can read our review for it through here. Nintendo recently also updated the Switch’s hardware numbers, confirming that it has now shipped over 61 million units worldwide.
