Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sells Over 1.8 Million Units in Japan in First Three Days

Nintendo Switch hardware sales almost hit 400,000 units in the period between March 16th and 22nd.

Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons was reported to have had the biggest launch ever for Nintendo Switch title in Japan. Thanks to Famitsu, we now know that the title has sold 1,880,626 retail units within its first three days of launch in the region. Keep in mind that this is only accounting for physical units, hardware bundle sales and download cards so the overall number could be higher when accounting for digital sales.

Nintendo Switch hardware sales were also up significantly in the week of the game’s release. Both the regular model and Switch Lite managed to sell 392,576 units from March 16th to March 22nd. Total sales for the Switch are over 12.8 million units in Japan thus far.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been doing pretty well outside of Japan as well. In the UK, it debuted at number one and sold 3.5 times the number of copies at launch as Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Its total launch week sales were higher than that of all previous games in the series combined which is crazy. Check out our review of the game here to see what makes it so great.
