Animal Crossing has become one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises, with the 3DS version routinely being considered one of the best games on the platform, and going on to sell over 8 million copies worldwide. Naturally, many have been wondering when a Wii U version will come, or if it will even come, considering that the series seems to function better on handhelds than on consoles (the Wii Animal Crossing game is widely considered to be the worst in the franchise).
In an interview with Engadget, Hisashi Nogami, the producer of Splatoon, and overseer of the Animal Crossing franchise in general, when Nogami was asked about Animal Crossing on Wii U, he had this to say:
“ Well, that’s difficult for me to answer at the moment! Yup. That’s pretty much all we can say. What I will say is that you may have seen an announcement recently about an Animal Crossing product coming out on the 3DS… I can tack that on to the end of my response.”
So, what does this mean? Can we expect a new Animal Crossing game for Wii U to be announced at E3 this year, maybe one that interacts with the new 3DS title? E3 isn’t too far off, so we don’t have long to wait. Stay tuned.
