I think they really nailed the pacing on the leveling up side of things. It's probably a bit slower and less awesome as a single player, but my girlfriend and I are having a blast. I feel that faster leveling would lead to less anticipation and appreciation of those crucial multiple-of-5 milestones, and it's never so slow that if feels like a grind - we are ALWAYS working towards an objective, and the levelups just sort of happen along the way. It's actually extremely impressive how unobtrusive they've made that aspect.

Heck, even the difficulty is just right. I never feel like I am in trouble unfairly, which is a problem in many of these games. It's the first I've played in a long time that just feels right!

Highly recommended.

The early stages are hard, however what i've found is that leveling up is actually pretty quick. I've been playing 4 days now, and I'm at level 36, which means metal bases, pterydactyls, end game armor, and so on. But your right, the early stages of the game are quite brutal. Its actually the first survival game I've enjoyed (other than perhaps minecraft, if you consider that survival). The game does need some serious optimization, and technical work though, but its amazing how well it works already, considering its only been in development for six months.

I should note something as well about leveling. Leveling only gives you stats and the ability to *craft* things. This is a game to play with others however. So if a new player joins an existing guild with a communal gear policy, it shouldn't be hard to convince a leveled player o help craft some more advanced gear. We just had a new player join our guild, and we've set hi up with leather armor, a pike, and told him if he farms enough leather we'll make him a dino saddle of his choice.

And yes, you can get a T-rex mount.
