Arkham City Developer: Villains Can’t ‘Just Develop Superhuman Strength Because It Makes Gameplay Sense’

Back in 2009, and probably still now, a lot of folks though Arkham Asylum was good. Game of the year good. One minor complaint amongst all of the games high points though, were the bossfights. We got super powered versions of people who weren’t even meant to be super powered, ie. the Joker, and most of the other fights were a little hulking and uninspired. Rocksteady’s marketing manager Dax Ginns offers his sincere apologies for this and says villain encounters will be better handled in Arkham city: “They’re humans, they’re mortal. Batman’s a mortal guy, but he’s a total badass, so we’ve got to make sure that all of a sudden someone like Riddler doesn’t just develop superhuman strength because it makes gameplay sense. No. Riddler is a smart guy but he’s not a powerhouse, and so the combat between Batman and Riddler exists on the intellectual level.”
