Assassin’s Creed Film Earns $22.5 Million in First 6 Days – Report

Strong international showing expected.

The film adaptation for Ubisoft’s successful Assassin’s Creed franchise starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard recently released…and was immediately panned by critics worldwide. But how did the general public react to this latest video game film?

As per Variety, Assassin’s Creed managed to earn $22.5 million within the first six days of release. The film has a budget of $125 million however so unless things up or overseas earnings are strong, it will be difficult to make back its budget.

Fox distribution head Chris Aronson expects the film to do well internationally. “This start exceeded our modeling. We’ll be the beneficiaries of a strong holiday play period.”

Though such performance isn’t surprising given the rather spotty history of video game film adaptations, Ubisoft was gung-ho about breaking the curse that plagued such movies. Assassin’s Creed does have multiple sequel apparently planned so we’ll see if these are affected by the first film’s success.
