The latest action game from PlatinumGames, Astral Chain, seems to have been big hit for the company. With a combination of refined gameplay and the cyberpunk-insfused visual style, it’s fairly one of a kind. But at one point, the game’s structure looked quite a bit different than what we got, as it was far less open earlier in development.
As reveled by Designer Sota Kotajima in the latest blog post from the company, at one point in time the game was set up to do one mission at a time from your central hub and then go back instantly to do another mission. The more open nature of having side missions to tackle at your own pace seemingly didn’t exist like it does in the final game.
Astral Chain is available now for Nintendo Switch. To read about another way the game changed majorly early in development, from fantasy to sci-fi, take look through here.
