For all the great exclusives – both timed and otherwise – that came out this year, 2015 was truly the year of the third party, multiplatform releases. While Sony managed to show off the power of the PS4 with The Order: 1886 and Until Dawn and Microsoft unleashed Forza Motorsport 6 and Halo 5: Guardians upon, it’s safe to say that the visual prowess those games display won’t be remembered as readily as some of the nominees on this list. It’s also worth pointing out that in terms of innovation, scale and outright fun, it was the multiplatform games which ultimately reminded us why we love to game, regardless of the platform. Here are the nominees for best multi-platform game of the year.

Winner: Metal Gear Solid 5 The Phantom Pain
While The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a better game overall – at least in our opinion – it was Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain that took top honours as a multiplatform title. This is because across all platforms, be it current or previous gen, you were assured of a solid, beautiful experience that didn’t compromise on the original vision. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, on the other hand, was plagued with performance issues on the PS4 that took a long while to fix. Though Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was forced to stick to a lower resolution and frame rate on PS3 and Xbox 360, it still delivered excellent performance all around. Even the PC version was top-notch, presenting plenty of different graphical options and launching without any issues. Say what you will about the ending and the controversy surrounding it but Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is definitely the best multi-platform title of the year.
