The PC format, claim many sceptics, is dying out. They may have a point, as one sees increasingly late and poorly optimised ports of multiplatform games to the system, decreasing software sales, and a general lack of non RTS exclusive support.
Blizzard, however, claims that all of that is bullcrap, and they have vowed that they will continue to support PC gaming.
“[PC Gaming is] certainly not written off by us. PC development has a number of unique challenges that console developers don’t face, but Blizzard is one of the few companies that is there making great PC games,” he said
However, he was quick to add, “We’ve spent a lot of time in development focussing on scalability, on new PC hardware and old. If you were just designing for a console it would be a much easier task.”
Blizzard certainly has a point, and if sales of the recently released Starcraft II are anything to go by, then we have at least one publisher for whom PC games remain a financially viable proposition.
