The BBC launched this week a new two part documentary, Bodyhack: Metal Gear Man, which explores a prosthetic limb project for 25-year-old James Young in its two chapters. Young lost his left arm in a tragic accident when he was dragged underneath a London tube train.
The documentary explores his prosthetic arm, was provided to him by Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami Digital Entertainment, as part of the “Phantom Limb Project.” The Phantom Limb Project is inspired by the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, the final chapter in Kojima’s long running Metal Gear saga which launched last year.
It has to be said, for all of the hate that Konami receive – and they have earned a fair bit of it – they deserve kudos and accolades for making such a positive difference in a young man’s life. Video games are video games, but to attempt to replace a lost arm for a man who lost his transcends that- and Konami have my utmost respect for doing something like this.
