Call of Duty 2017 Will Take Series “Back To Its Roots” – Activision

Infinite Warfare's space setting "just didn't resonate".

During its year end earnings call, Activision talked about the success of Call of Duty despite Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare being one of the less successful titles in the franchise thus far.

As per Activision, the franchise saw record month average users with fourth quarters being stable “as players engaged on multiple titles”. You can thank Black Ops 3 for that – it saw record add-on revenues which were “greater than à la carte map packs and Season Pass combined, even with record Season Pass participation”.

Activision COO Thomas Tippl noted that when it comes to Infinite Warfare, “It’s clear for a portion of our audience, the space setting just didn’t resonate.”

However, the 2017 iteration of the franchise (which is under Sledgehammer Games of Advanced Warfare fame)
will take Call of Duty back to its roots.” It will apparently feature “traditional combat” as per Tippl so rest easy.
