"This could be a controversial opinion."

- Based on the fact that this is probably the Biggest FPS community around, 'Could Be' is probably an understatement.

"Well a lot of people will agree with what he has to say but blaming a
game for ruining the market is incorrect because you can also say Call
of Duty expanded the market."

- Yes and No. Based on what you say about expanding the market, I see it as more of an eroding double edged sword. The sharp side being the fact that it has expanded the gaming community as a whole because of its popularity expanding gaming into more households and the dull side, the what I like to call, 'Negative Influence' its had on the gaming community as a whole. An influence which has affected both Gamer(As pointed out Greatly in the article) and developer/publisher whom try to profit off of their(CODs) 'Casual' and/or 'Accessible' formula and fail as seen in Killzone 3 or say Resident Evil 6. Two different games whom tried to cater to the current trend in gaming(Or as devs call it, Accessibility) and failed by changing their IDs from its challenging roots to a less challenging and rewarding experience.

The influence stems from the game and its success and both gamer, publisher and developer are at fault for continuing that trend so in a way he is right but is wrong at the same time for blaming the game itself and not the Influence or its zombie like effect its had on this gens FPS players.

That being said, Enjoy this great video which amplifies my point and possibly Gibsons as well:
