Hidetaka Miyazaki is a pretty well-to-do developer, having directed Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne, laying the foundation for From Software’s Souls series. Despite the popularity of the franchise, Miyazaki is looking to create something that could surpass it.
On speaking to Kotaku regarding whether Miyazaki would be remembered 10 years from now for the Souls series or something else, he replied, “To be honest, I’m really not interested on how I’m viewed as. The only thing I’m interested in is to keep creating something special. Whether that something is synonymous to me or not is really none of my concern.”
And while he is “happy to know that people have that sort of image” of the man, Miyazaki does want to top his previous work. “Even if that image stays with me, I have no intention of ending in a way where I couldn’t create a game that surpasses the Souls series. That would be pretty sad, wouldn’t it?”
We know that From Software is working on new IPs, the details for which are yet to come so stay tuned.
