Darksiders Lead Visual Designer Leaves Vigil Games, Returns to Comic Books

Joe "MaD" Madureira announced his departure, stating "Vigil's future is in very good hands".

Vigil Games creative director and lead visual designer of the Darksiders series, Joe “MaD” Madureira who announced his departure from the company to return to comic books. He stated as much in a tweet and spoke more on his Facebook fan page:

“Farewell and best wishes to all my brothers and sisters at Vigil Games! After 7 long years and 2 hit games (Darksiders BABY!) I’m afraid the time has come for me to move on to new adventures. I could not be more proud of what we achieved, or the awesome people who helped build up this studio. I can safely say Vigil’s future is in very good hands, so expect only awesomeness down the road. This feels surreal…I miss the place already.”

Madureira is probably more infamous amongst comic book fans for being the artist behind the abysmal Marvel series, Ultimates 3.

It’s funny because both Darksiders games under-performed, with Vigil even going as far to state that they were banking heavily on the success of the second game. A sign of things to come, in today’s lay-off heavy industry? We’ll soon see.
