I’m responding to Failz saying you need 8gb minimum to run PC games. Everyone in my house except myself games with 4gb of ram. 99.9% of games on the PC will run with 4gb. My young son is playing BF3/BF4 and other games with a amd 945 cpu, 4gb ddr3 ram, and a gtx 8800 gpu and he even plays planetside 2 with such a low spec machine. To say you need 8gb for pc gaming is wrong. My pc is a amd 8350, 16gb ddr3 ram, and 280x in crossfire, which is overkill for many games.

Aye, it’s the highest single configuration, but when you look at the stats, the majority of Steam gamers (nearly 60 per cent) have less than 8GB, and 40-odd per cent only have 4GB or less.

You realise 8GB is the min spec for Star Citizen, the highest min spec available. You can run _everything_ with 8GB of RAM (as long as you have at least 1GB of Video card RAM as well).

Too right, I’ve got a decent processor (i7 3770) but my GPU is ‘just’ a GTX 660 – it’s only when you look at the Steam hardware survey that my machine is comfortably in the top 25% of Steam users (and yet sites/opinionated PC gamers call the GTX 660 a mid-range card – which it is in terms of power, but definitely not in terms of market penetration).

While the consoles are more “PC” like now, it still doesn’t make sense to compare them to PC’s.

I agree. I’m running a amd 8350 and 7970 with 16gb ddr3, and I compared my machine and found most machines using steam were weaker. That’s saying a lot considering my machine isn’t even the best you can make.

That is a lie, my son plays BF3 with 4gb ddr2 ram. load a game then check your ram. You’ll find out you still have plenty left. 8gb is still overkill when it comes to playing games on the pc. I have 16gb, but I run vm’s. most people only need 4gb.

Either way, their not using all of that ram playing games.

Not really, Ask yourself, just how much ram does your gaming pc use? Even nowadays, 8gb of ram is overkill unless your running other things in the background such as vm’s. Mu son is currently using 4gb ram with a amd 945 and 9800gt and he plays bf3 easily (hes 9, I refuse to get his computer to my pc’s level…. 😉 Now If you want to talk about console vs pc latest gpus, that’s a different matter!

PC’s have to use RAM for the OS as well you know and it’s a far bigger OS, plus very few PC gamers have GPU’s with 4.5 GB of GDDR5 RAM on board. What was you’re point again? I’m definitely overwhelmed, but devs will never have enough because it makes their work look good.
