I bought my new xbox slim last friday, so had it less than a week, and alrdy i’ve got red dot of death (new name for it apparantly). now it isn’t all the hardware that overheats and dies, it is the hard drive, and since u transfer all of ur data onto it, u pretty much loose everything u have including Downloadable content i.e. map packs, avatar items, and pretty much everything else. so my advice to anyone if they buy is to use an external hard drive formatted to bein used on the xbox, otherwise the hard drive will just overheat and you’ll have to scour the internet tryin to find a solution to get all of your information back

Am I the only one that feels a little bit shafted here? Call me a n00b, but I only got my 360 a few months ago, and now this thing comes out at the same price and with five times the functionality. The thing that really pisses me off is that they just now added the wi-fi adaptor. PS3 and Wii had this at launch, but Microsoft had to wait three years?

Ugh, I hate the design, but one of the reasons I prefered PS3 over XBOX360 was the built-in WiFi. Now the only way the 360 will win me over is no RROD.

Yay, lets take components that already consistently overheat and shove them into an even smaller space!!! If this thing doesn’t overheat in minutes, it’ll sound like its trying to take off.

When will these companies learn? I don’t mind a slightly larger box next to my TV if it means I don’t have to turn the volume up to overcome some stupid cooling fans.

In reply to Ben. Well Ben, the RROD was due to heat causing the CPU to lift off the contact pad of the motherboard. Uunlike PC CPUs that make little pins, the 360 CPU has little "balls" that make contact with the motherboard. Heat causes it to seperate, losign contact, locking up the console. Why would they redesign the entire console and not address this known issue?

The controller’s trim pieces look like their all black. If you look at the old black ones, they’re gray on the top and bottom. Also, the sticks and d-pad are now that shiny black, they were gray before, too.

In reply to Ben. What makes it less susceptible to RROD is that big fan stuck on the side of the case to aid it in cooling down. Seems like pretty good reasoning to me, but proof can only come with time.

I’m guessing it’s less susceptible to RROD because all the internal hardware is changed. A major cause of RROD on the original units is the crappy heatsink which would not fit into this new unit
