EA Announces Job Cuts for 6 Percent of its Employees

EA has announced that 6% of its workforce will be affected by a new round of lay-offs.

EA has announced that it will be restructuring its workforce. According to the announcement on the company’s website as part of a letter to staff, the restructuring will affect 6% of EA’s workforce, which roughly amounts to over 750 jobs.

“As we drive greater focus across our portfolio, we are moving away from projects that do not contribute to our strategy, reviewing our real estate footprint, and restructuring some of our teams,” said CEO Andrew Wilson in the letter to employees. “These decisions are expected to impact approximately six percent of our company’s workforce.”

According to Wilson, the company hopes to transition as many of the affected employees as it can on to other roles in the company. Those who are let go, however, have been promised severance pay, as well as benefits like health care and career transition services.

“Communicating these decisions began earlier this quarter,” Wilson noted, “and we expect them to continue through early next fiscal year.”

A number of studios under EA are currently working on major video game releases for the rest of the year. The most recent game published by EA was the Dead Space Remake. Earlier this year, the company saw another round of cost cutting in the form of rumoured single-player Titanfall game being cancelled. The company also announced that Apex Legends Mobile will be getting shut down on May 1.

EA’s next major release is going to be Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which is slated for release on April 28 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
