As a student currently pursuing a BFA in New Media with plans of one day entering the industry myself, I must say that I’m one of a very small percentage of my class. Gender biases as still very real, but I don’t believe it’s that in the traditional sense which is keeping women out of the industry. The thing is, I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the opinion that the only “real jobs” for women in New Media and other related fields is in advertising and/or graphic design- and this coming from women themselves! It’s an unfortunate point of view to say the least.
