Embracer Group Has Signed a “Transformative Partnership and Licensing Deal” That Will Entail Multiple AAA Games

The deal will "enable further investments into making even greater games based on both established and new IPs," the company says.

Embracer Group has expanded rapidly in a few short years, but of course, the company has its sights set on further growth. And while part of that will come through the development and release of a large number of games both big and small, as tends to be the case with many gaming companies now, you’d imagine some of that success will also come through future licensing partnerships and agreements.

And it seems like that’s something that the Embracer Group has taken steps towards. In its recent fiscal report (pg. 2), the company revealed that it has entered into a “transformative partnership and licensing deal” that it is working on “with several industry partners.” The company says the deal will cover “a range of large-budget upcoming games over the coming six year” and will “enable further investments into making even greater games based on both established an new IPs.”

“One result of such efforts to capitalize on the value we have created is a transformative partnership and licensing deal, that we have worked on with several industry partners,” the company writes. “This deal covers a range of large-budget upcoming games over the coming six years. We expect the whole or parts of this deal will close during this financial year, thereby, it would improve predictability, lower business risk and provide a positive impact on our cash flow and profits. It would also enable further investments into making even greater games based on both established and new IPs.”

The two licensing agreements that several companies in the industry have been nabbing of late are Star Wars and Marvel, and one would imagine that Embracer Group is likely speaking about something along those lines.

Of course, the Embracer Group already does have its fingers in the Marvel pie, courtesy of Crystal Dynamics’ Marvel’s Avengers. Interestingly, however, reports have recently claimed that the company is working out a deal with Marvel that “extends well beyond Avengers.”
