Epic Games Acquires Music Company Bandcamp

Epic Games has acquired indie music streaming platform company Bandcamp for an undisclosed amount of money.

Epic Games has grown massively in scope and scale over the last couple of years, and as such, has been making some very important investments and acquisitions as of late. The company has now also acquired Bandcamp, an indie music platform that’s known for putting its artists at the forefront of its revenue model by giving them an average of 82% of every sale on the platform.

The announcement comes via a recent blog post on Bandcamp’s official website, wherein it has been stated that the companies will operate just as they did before- but Epic’s investment of an undisclosed amount (Bandcamp has paid over $1 billion to its artists and labels as of the time of writing) will be put towards development of Bandcamp’s mobile apps, vinyl pressing, and live streaming services.

“We share a vision of building the most open, artist-friendly ecosystem in the world, and together we’ll be able to create even more opportunities for artists to be compensated fairly for their work,” said Ethan Diamond, Bandcamp CE).

Last year, Epic Games also acquired Rock Band developer Harmonix for an undisclosed sum of money with a vision of elevating Fortnite’s musical experience to another level- read more on that through here.
