Claiming a game like Far Cry is just a 20 to 30 hour experience is a serious underestimate and does not do the series justice. It's true that if you just race through the campaign to the end it's around 20 to 30 hours, but there is so much more going on and stuff to explore that it's more like 80-100 hours.

Then we have the Far Cry 4 map editor. That thing is unlimited. Even more so than a multiplayer game. It allows you to create your own mini games down to the finest of details that you can then play coop with a friend, over and over like a mulltiplayer game. You have full creative control in map creation and enemy placement, which have the same AI as the main game, so the battles are extremely satisfying and varied.

To put that into perspective, I spent hundreds of hours in the Far Cry 4 map editor. I created about 30 huge detailed multi battle maps each with a different theme. Each map took around 40-100 hours to create and took around an hour to play with a friend. Map creation is not a chore. It's relaxing gameplay, similar to painting a picture or creating music. We then replayed each map several times because they were so much fun and played differently each time due to clever design. That makes a mockery of the 20-30 hours.

Far Cry 4 was a huge package. Way more than the campaign, and the good news is that Far Cry 5 includes the map editor again with improved gameplay tools to create even more stuff. I'm getting this info out there because it's the deciding factor when compared to other games. The Far Cry 4 map editor still remains the defining feature of the PS4 gen and hardly anyone knew about its potential or even that such a powerful tool existed. There has been nothing to match it previously and still no real competition apart from the excellent settlement building in Fallout 4.

Yes previous Far Cry games had map editors which is where I learned the skills but it was Far Cry 4 that enabled you to play them with a friend against enemy AI. You are basically making your own mini games limited only by your imagination. It's free DLC forever and friends claim my maps are even better than DLC you pay for. That's mot me showing off, that me proving how powerful these tools are.
