Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves – REV System, Overheat, and S.P.G. Detailed

REV Blows, REV Accel and REV Arts open up new ways to play, though use them too much, and you'll enter an Overheat state.

With EVO Japan set for April 27th to 29th, SNK has released a new guide for those checking out the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves demo. The sequel to 1999’s Garou: Mark of the Wolves features several new and returning characters, plus new mechanics like the REV System.

Relying on the new REV Meter, these techniques will build it up; some rely on Selective Potential Gear or S.P.G. being active (which we’ll get to in a bit). REV Blows follows the latter and allows for shrugging off attacks while counter-attacking. REV Arts requires pressing Light Punch + Heavy Punch or Light Kick + Heavy Kick after using a Special move, unleashing a stronger version.

REV Accel allows for chaining REV Arts into each other or a REV Blow. REV Guard is a defensive move with a dedicated button that provides more space between opponents and negates chip damage from Special moves. When the REV Meter overheats, it’s no longer usable, and the Guard gauge depletes until you enter the Guard Crush state. Landing attacks and or waiting it out helps restore the REV Meter.

Like in Garou, the S.P.G. can be assigned to the start, middle or end of your health bar – it activates when your health drops to that region, increasing attack strength. You’ll also gradually recover health and gain access to REV Blows.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves launches in early 2025. Stay tuned for more details until then.
