Personally I look at video games as the chance to keep the violent, animalistic, side of me happy. If the church does something really stupid, I can toss a molotov through the window of a virtual church instead of lashing out at the real thing. If someone pisses me right off, there is almost certainly some asshole in a video game that makes me think of them, so time to go hunt that character out an beat the shit out of them/kill them. Instead of speeding down the highway in real life I can blaze down a highway in a video game. etc.
