We’re at that weird time when one year is winding down and another is getting ready to jump into action. 2019 was an interesting year for gaming, seeing some of the biggest surprises and most unique experiences I can remember for many years. It’s also time to see what games topped what charts for the year, and Nintendo let us know what was the most downloaded games for the Switch.
Probably not surprisingly was Fortnite topping the list at number 1. Considering it’s free to play, as well as still the biggest game in the world currently. The second spot went to Nintendo’s own Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. That isn’t a surprise per say, but when you consider it’s a full priced title, with a price tag that’s stayed very steady since its release at the end of 2018, it goes to show just how strong of a seller that game has been.
The rest of the list is a mix of first party and third party titles, with indies getting a lot of love with the likes of Untitled Goose Game, Hollow Knight and Undertale making the lists. But the big third party hitters like NBA 2K19 and Mortal Kombat 11 also got their piece of the pie. You can check out the full list below and, of course, all of those games are available now on the Nintendo eShop.
