Gamescom 2020 Will Now Be A Digital Event, More Details To Follow Soon

The announcement comes after Germany bans major events up until August.

Well, I suppose it was an inevitability when it was all said and done. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, almost every major gaming conference scheduled for this year has been canceled, and it seems it’s now time for Gamescom 2020 to also be affected.

As announced via the official Twitter, there will be no more on-site physical conference. While this isn’t too surprising, since last month it was announced digital format was going to be part of the show regardless, it now seems any small hopes of an on-site conference is out the window. Germany, where the event takes place, announced a ban on all major events until the end of August, the month Gamescom is scheduled. Some type of digital event will take its place.

Gamescom is the biggest gaming convention in Europe and has become a major one internationally over the last few years. While it’s no surprise that this happened, considering all the complications with COVID-19, it’s still disappointing. We’ll keep you in the loop for when more details emerge on the digital format.
