Gardens is a New Studio Founded by Former Journey, Sky, and What Remains of Edith Finch Devs

Gardens is a fully-remote studio established by industry veterans with a goal to create multiplayer experiences that foster meaningful interactions between players.

Gardens is a new fully-remote studio based out of Portland and Los Angeles that’s recently been established by president and creative director Chris Bell, technical director Lexie Dostal and narrative director Stephen Bell. These co-founders have previously worked on games such as Journey, Sky: Children of the Light, What Remains of Edith Finch, and more.

Gardens will be focusing on creating multiplayer games that will entail meaningful connections between players. The studio also aims to nurture an inclusive and all-around healthy work environment for its employees. Gardens’ wider team also includes former talent from Fullbright, Insomniac, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom, and more.

“With Gardens, we wanted to create a studio that cares as much about the health, happiness, and wellbeing of its team members as we do the craftsmanship of the games we create together. Our top priority is making sure our teammates enjoy their lives and are given the tools and resources to grow while creating compelling, well-crafted, thoughtful games that cultivate novel shared experiences between players online,” said co-founder Chris Bell.

Gardens just might be one of the first studios to go fully-remote right from the onset, and as such it should be interesting to witness how its upcoming projects shape up. The studio is also currently hiring for a number of open positions across several positions.
