Gears 5’s Map Builder Receives First Gameplay Footage

The video takes a look at the customization features on offer.

We didn’t get a lot of (or any) campaign footage for Gears 5 at E3 2019, disappointingly enough, but Microsoft did talk about the game’s multiplayer offerings a little bit. More specifically, they spoke of Escape, an all new multiplayer mode, three player co-op experience. Shortly afterward, it was also confirmed that Escape would also include a map builder.

Now, the first gameplay footage for said map builder has been released, courtesy of IGN. The trailer shows the customization tools that will be on offer, which will see players creating their own Escape maps by connecting room tiles from various available options, and also customizing other variables in the map like the enemy types they’ll be facing, the venom threat, the ammo and resources that’ll be available, and more. Take a look below.

Gears 5 is out on September 10 for the Xbox One and PC. On Xbox One X, it will run in 4K and 60 FPS. Microsoft recently confirmed that the game will be dropping loot boxes entirely, and won’t have season pass either. Read more on that through here.
