I know older doesn’t mean worse. I just figure you would be a bit more aware of the specs of your current hardware. I’m sure you are also aware enough to realize which card models are made for gaming, so the comparison can be a bit easier.

Also, to be perfectly honest, system requirements are pretty useless. No joke, at least 50% of the time the PC build listed in minimum requirements for a game won’t be able to get more than 20 FPS, and sometimes won’t run at all. If you’re really worried about a game not running, wait until it has been out for about a week, then join the forum for that game, which would either be through Steam or the publisher’s website. Make a thread asking if your setup will be able to run the game. That is your best bet considering system requirements are bogus.

The reality is that very few people looking at the recommended requirements for a game are going to be using a 4+ year old GPU. The recommended requirements are supposed to be a quick reference that can convey the intended information quickly without requiring an additional search. If they can’t do that, why wouldn’t you just go and search for a better third party performance review anyway? A 2 minute search to see how your hardware compares isn’t hard, true, but at that point the listed requirements are kind of useless anyway.

A GTX 480 is a lot better than a newer GTX 560 or an even newer 730. Just because something is older, doesn’t mean it performs worse.

Really though, do you understand the point of requirements? During the testing phase they will take the least powerful setup that was still able to run the game, and that will be the setup used for minimum requirements. The recommended is the least powerful setup that gives the best average performance.

If you have a much newer CPU/GPU, what logical reason would you need to compare it to outdated hardware? I would hope you aren’t buying new hardware for your PC that can’t even stand up against something four years old.

Honestly, if you’re complaining about taking 2 minutes to use Google and make a simple comparison between your current hardware to what they recommend, I feel kind of sorry for you.
