It can turn the tide in a seemingly impossible battle. So can traps and signs. Combat has depth, use all your available tools and the game will not only be more fun it will be easier to win.

As for magic…I highly doubt even a maxed out magic tree will allow spamming of signs. Cdpr is about balance.
