“The USPTO will periodically conduct a status check of the application to determine whether suspension remains appropriate, and the trademark examining attorney will issue as needed an inquiry letter to applicant regarding the status of the matter on which suspension is based. TMEP §§716.04, 716.05. Applicant will be notified when suspension is no longer appropriate. See TMEP §716.04”

in most cases a company will do a trademark search before to determine if a title can be used. In this case their lawyers have determined that the use is fine. USPTO will do its job and Sony will be awarded the trademark.

Sony’s choices presented in this piece are not valid until USPTO has a chance to evaluate it, which it has not. Furthermore, the article title itself is wrong because a trademark has NOT been suspended. The application for trademark is whats suspended. It can not be suspended if it doesn’t exist yet…
