Yeah, that didn't happen. While the games you mention are in fact great, they didn't really re-capture the core gamer. Saying something and/or writing it down and publishing it doesn't make it true. It's like saying that Sony re-captured the casual by making a motion control system that's more accurate than the Wii, that didn't happen either, even if they want it to be true. The games didn't drive adoption of the system regardless of core status, looking somehwhat better than a normal Wii game, or any other reason that can be pulled out of a hat. Hell the only reason that the Wii sold so much in November, and likely December, was due to te release of the red console with a game that is actually awesome and not some ugly motion fest, as well as the fact that it's dirt cheap. I imagine a lot of little kids were really pissed they got a Wii instead of a PS3 or Xbox 360 for Christmas, my kids would have been.

Ninty's not going anywhere, but inflating what they did in terms of game releases ignores the bigger picture of the fact that their console is aging rapidly and can only be sustained for so much longer with the games looking so shoddy, even the ones that look really good. Call me when the Wii2 comes out and has an HDMI out so I can play a truly beautiful Zelda or Mario game that is in 1080p instead of 480p with the use of component cables.

In reply to <a href="https://gamingbolt.com/how-the-wii-reclaimed-the-hardcore-gamer-in-2010#comment-46972">Amilo</a>.

You saying that there is nothing on the PS3 or 360, especially in the case of the PS3, is so fundamentally false that it borders on delusion. I'm pretty sure, no, absolutely sure that you can't get any first-party exclusive from Sony or Microsoft on PC, just like you can't get a Nintendo exclusive on a PC. There are some concessions in Microsofts case but you can't get any current PS3 exclusive games on a PC, unless there is a magical emulator and PC powerful enough to run it properly that only you know about. Even if you say that you are talking about multiplatform games it immediately makes your claim illegitimate. When you can play Uncharted, Killzone, Gran Turismo, Move, Kinect (not hacked), and many, many other games you can say that without being a complete and utter liar.

So no, both systems didn't get crushed by the Wii in any shape or form, in terms of games the Wii was dominated by both of the HD consoles regardless of what you Nintendo-only fans seem to think or suggest. I don't know what fantasy land 2010 you lived in but it didn't happen this year and it won't happen next. But you got Mega Man 10 and Sonic 4 which were the total benchmarks for HD-gaming this year so I have no idea what I am talking about. Have fun with your Wii though since any (good) 3rd party exclusive that can migrate to one or both of the HD systems will start to head there, play better, look better, and sell better than they would on the Wii. Once that happens, well, there's only the first party titles which is something Nintendo excels at making and selling. It's just too bad they all look like garbage after you see them run through the Dolphin emulator and it make you want to cut a Nintendo executive for not making an HD capable system.

Bit.Trip Runner is awesome, and Jett Rocket is a rip-off of Mario Galaxy. Pearl Harbor looks nice, though.

It's no mystery that PC, 360 and PS3 are graphical powerhouses, but all systems have shovelware. That is not endemic to Wii. And might I add that the year 2010 saw the release of motion controls (obviously not including PS eyetoy in this statement) on 360 and PS3. Gee isn't that sooooooooooo gimmicky? All the fanboys had a field day about it for nearly 4 years, but now that they are getting it too, no one is talking about the fact that they are blatantly ripping off the Wii. This isn't competition, this is dirty.

What is all this 'Bit-trip Runner' crap being used to denote the viability of the WiiWare service?

It maybe a playable/addictive game but it looks like a retro turd from a retro age that only Ninty fans can justify by saying things like...'but yeah, its retro, yeah way cool man' etc.

F**k that game and you can do the same to Megaman too. Only Nintendo could gain a fan base for shitty looking NES games released on a motion controlled Gamecube in the year 2010.

What about Jett Rocket or Pearl Harbor Trilogy?
They are far better examples of what the Wiiware service can offer in a 40mb game, not bloody Jet Set Willy.

I love my Wii but it most definitely isn't for the 8 bit ' Megacrap 10' they're releasing. Whats next, the Game n Watch channel?

Absolutely. I only have Wii and DS, so money and time are my most limiting constraints, tbh. And I love to own games, not rent. My friend has a PS3 and another's got the 360, and clearly The Force Unleashed is quite a different experience than on the Wii.

The truth is, you need to be a Nint-o-phile in a lot of ways to stick with them, but there is something to be said about the Wii experience. It suits me well.
