Japanese developers have finally come around to releasing their games on PC, thanks to Valve providing them with the kind of standardized platform for release on PC that they seem to prefer. The best part of all of this isn’t just that the unique Japanese aesthetic and flavor of games is now accessible to an all new audience- that’s true- but that several genres, which were flat out missing from PC gaming for years, such as visual novels, fighters, and yes, JRPGs, are now all on the system.
The latest Japanese game (and JRPG) to make the jump to PC gaming via Steam is Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, a game that plays just a little bit better than its name rolls off the tongue. Still, whether or now I am a fan of it, the fact remains that even niche Japanese games are now coming to Steam, and that is a great thing.
The PC version will contain upgraded graphics, run in 1080p, and have both Japanese and English audio.
It will be releasing on January 28 for $14.99.
