That Skylake-S might have full DirectX support has been something that has been speculated and discussed for a while now, especially given the recent rumors that have started flying. And now, as it turns out, the chips will in fact have full support for DirectX 12, and Intel is going all the way- it’s not just going to be support for DirectX 12 APIs either, it will be supported on a hardware level, with the chips boasting the full DX12 feature set.
This makes the upcoming Intel chips the first ones ever to have full DirectX 12 support (so it’s nice to see that they decided to do it properly, instead of half assing it, like they could have. This should also help DirectX regain and retain some prevalence as the go to choice of APIs for gaming on PCs, especially after it has been assuaged by Mantle on all sides of late.
