Do you get reimbursed for outtages too?

No. No you don't. You just get to grab your ankles. And you like it.

Sony could've afforded to wait another year and release around the same time as Scorpio considering how well the PS4 is doing, it seem kind of desperate from Sony to release now mostly because the PS4 wasn't good enough for VR, another year of development and prices coming down, they likely could've gone for native 4k at 30fps, after all, a RX480 can do native 4k at 30fps with a lot of games if you are careful with the visuals settings, Eurogamer tried that out a few months ago, in any case, if Scorpio is native 4k, they are going to milk that PR against Sony till the cows come home.

If this system was designed to last 1 year or so, Pachter may be right. 4K will be mainstream within a year or 2 however, and this thing will be a forgettable under performing system.

Who knows though. This "is" Sony of course. It's not like they have any problem abandoning hardware on a whim. They'll likely still have a PS5 to announce to compete with Scorpio shortly after. It's sad we're in the day now of "double dipping" in software, much less hardware now too.

it really is not an either or situation, i didn't switch from xbox 360 to playstation 4 because ps4 was more powerful than xbox one, i switched because sony is focused on making games and many of the games i like disgaea, tales of, or other japanese or niche oriented games like berserk have never found an audience on xbox. blue dragon, lost odyssey, and tales of vesperia were great but they didn't sale well and microsoft didn't think growing that audience was worth continued investment. fortunately now with xbox games on windows i can play the occasional exclusive like recore i am interested on my pc which can be as powerful as i want to be.

i am far more interested in nintendo switch, i haven't played a zelda game since windwaker on gamecube, the wii and motion controls along with vr do not interest me and i won't buy them.

i said i was getting ps4 pro for improved graphics at 1080p and sata 3.0 as i intended to finally put an ssd inside where as with ps4 it wasn't worthwhile because because sata 2 is so slow.

supersampling is what i think you are talking about, here is a few quotes from devs below. unfortunately without a 4k display you will not be getting to see the big improvement in contrast, color and brightness you would get with HDR. i think i will wait for hdr monitors as i prefer to game on those over hdtv's though.

"Van Beek explained that PS4 Pro supports supersampling on normal HDTVs, helping in removing shimmering and aliasing, and creating a much crisper image even on a normal 1080p screen. Hastings added that you get “a sense of the detail” and “temporal stability” that is hard to achieve at standard 1080p, because you’re packing more information in each pixel, and the image quality improves. It’s not the same thing as in actual 4K, but it’s a noticeable improvement and it makes a difference.

Gyrling explained that developers have access to information on what kind of TV is used, and they can use supersampling, or opt to crank up elements like ground clutter, making the world richer. There’s “definitely a benefit” whichever way developers decide to go.

According to Hastings, the additional CPU power also allows developers to add more actors or improve physics. Supersampling is the “easy way” to get a solid improvement, but developers can be more creative about it."
