Japanese Game Charts: Pokemon X & Y Debuts on Top, GTA V PS3 Sales Strong

PS Vita 2000 sales are surprisingly strong in its debut.

The latest Media Create Sales charts are in, and surprise, Game Freak’s Pokémon X and Y debuted on top for the 3DS, selling a monstrous 1,866,570 units in its first week. Considering that the game sold 4 million units within the first few days of release worldwide, this isn’t too surprising.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto V debuted on PS3, selling 360,115 units in its first week. Monster Hunter 4 continued to see strong sales, with 110,208 units sold this week, amounting to 2,652,824 units over its lifetime.

The 3DS XL is still on top, selling 141,245 units this week while the regular 3DS managed 72,325 units sold. Interestingly, this was the week that the PlayStation Vita 2000 debuted. How did the slimmer, lighter, more battery-efficient version do? It managed to bring total PS Vita sales up to 60,166 units, enough to rank the handheld in third place. It still hasn’t beaten the 3DS but this is far better than how the Vita has regularly been performing.
