Journey’s Art Director Starts New Studio “Giant Squid”

Matt Nava is looking to create "innovate and deeply moving games that will inspire people."

As if the work he did on the Game of the Year winning and nominated PSN title Journey, developed by thatgamecompany, weren’t enough, art director Matt Nava has launched his own company dubbed Giant Squid. The studio will be based in Santa Monica, and is currently hiring for several positions.

Ideal candidates thus far would be those who love Hackers and Lego. Good luck guessing this one.

Of course, Nava isn’t alone. He’ll be joined by Journey music composer Austin Winroy and Flow game designer Nicholas Clark (in an advisory role). Tava stated that, “We plan to create innovative and deeply moving games that will inspire players, challenge convention, and push the boundaries of experiential and narrative interactive entertainment into new and unexpected areas.”

Sounds like a good mantra – one that thatgamecompany has been pushing for ever since entering into the gaming industry. Let’s see what Nava and his crew at Giant Squid deliver in the next few months.
