Kemuri Gets Brand New Trailer Showcasing Combat, Traversal, Slated for 2027 Release

The trailer focused quite a bit on the variety offered by Kemuri's various traversal mechanisms, ranging from running to flying.

Developer Unseen has given us a new look at its co-op action game Kemuri. The trailer largely focuses on giving us a look at its gameplay, while also providing a breakdown on the player’s role as a Yokai Hunter that has to “Hunt the Unseen”. Check it out below.

Much of the gameplay showcased for Kemuri focuses on traversal, with many characters seemingly having different ways of moving around its open world. This can range from running vertically up buildings, to gliding down from skyscrapers on hoverboards, and in some cases, even flying.

We also get a good look at its hack-and-slash gameplay that will give players plenty of options when it comes to making use of strange weapons and even stranger special abilities.

Developed by a new studio founded after Ghostwire: Tokyo director Ikumi Nakamura left Tango Gameworks, Kemuri was announced all the way back in 2023 as indie team’s first major project. The title takes many cues from Nakamura’s previous works, especially in how it focuses on hunting down various Yokai from Japanese folklore and myths.

In February 2024, Nakamura had revealed that the world of Kemuri will be “semi-open,” that, while not on the scale of other open-world games, will at least offer plenty of options for players when it comes to exploration and a sense of discovery. At the time, she noted that it is not going to be “a linear game either,” while saying that “it’s quite hard to describe.”

Kemuri is aiming for a 2027 launch.
