Kickstarter for ‘The Interactive Canvas’ Book Hopes To Explore The ‘Games As Art’ Argument Further

New book will attempt to explore the 'games as art' argument further.

Teaming up with Digitally Downloaded, author Matthew Sainsbury is planning on further exploring the merits of video games as art in the form of a glossy, 200+ page full color coffee book; to that end, he has started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the book, with a $60,000 fundraising goal.

“This is a book that I’ve wanted to write for many years now. I’m an arts student, and have fond memories about digging deep into my favorite films to analyze them back in my uni days,” Sainsbury wrote. “It’s something that I’ve always felt could be, and should be, part of the games industry, and I felt that Kickstarter was my chance to make the dream happen.”

Through this book, Sainsbury hopes to explore the various aspects of a video game while assessing them as art- their visuals, their music, their content and subject matter, and so on.
