Kirby Air Riders Direct Announced for August 19th

The showcase will offer 45 minutes of new details on the upcoming Switch 2-exclusive racing title before its launch this year.

Just as director Masahiro Sakurai promised new details “soon,” Nintendo has announced dedicated Direct for Kirby Air Riders. Airing at 6 AM PT, the showcase will run for 45 minutes and reveal new information about the title, which launches later this year.

Announced last April, the sequel to 2003’s GameCube classic Kirby Air Ride will be available exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The racing title focuses on competing on various courses with a Warpstar as their vehicle. What differentiates it from the Mario Kart series is the lack of player-controlled acceleration. Instead, you’ll need to adjust the altitude and absorb different power-ups from enemies to use against the other racers.

How Kirby Air Riders will innovate on this formula, especially with all the changes and improvements introduced in Mario Kart World, remains to be seen, so stay tuned. Nintendo is also present at Gamescom this week, offering playable demos of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A and more at its booth.
